Electric Bike Battery Care & Warranty

Electric Bike Battery

The battery is one of the most important parts of an electric bike. Your bike's electric motor is 100% reliant on your battery's power and health. The following information explains how to care for, handle and safely manage your electric bike battery.

Safety Precautions

Incorrect use of the battery pack may result in an excessive rise in temperature, fire and/or explosion leading to serious personal injury. Please read the following before use.

  • Charge battery fully prior to initial use
  • Charge the battery pack at an ambient temperature between 10°C and 30°C, and use between 0°C and 40°C
  • Detach the battery when not in use — a small amount of power continues to draw while attached, which can over-discharge the battery, shortening its life or causing failure and voiding your warranty
  • Always store the battery in a cool, dry place
  • Fully charge the battery before storage and recharge every 3 months — failure to maintain charge could damage the battery and void your warranty
  • If battery duration or range is extremely short after recharging, or it becomes impossible to recharge, the battery has reached the end of its service life and should be replaced
  • Remove the battery from the charger once fully charged — leaving it on charge for long periods can damage it and void your warranty
  • If you have any concerns about your battery, do not use it and seek expert assistance
  • Always dispose of used batteries at an approved recycling location — never in general household waste

Battery Pack Care

  • Always keep your battery locked or in a secure location
  • Do not heat or incinerate the battery
  • Do not attempt to reconstruct, disassemble, deform or short-circuit the battery
  • Do not touch the terminals with metal objects such as jewellery, keys, coins or hairpins
  • Do not leave the battery in direct sun, near heating equipment, or in a closed car on a summer day
  • Do not let the battery become wet or immersed in water
  • Do not drop the battery or subject it to strong shocks or impacts
  • Do not allow sand, dust, water or other substances to contact the battery's terminals
  • Do not charge with an unauthorised battery charger
  • Do not leave or store your battery below 40% state of charge

Battery Types & Range

There are different types of bike batteries, with power and quality varying by the battery purchased. Riding range and battery life vary depending on the power demands of your bike.

How far can you ride with a full battery? Range depends on the power rating of the battery, support position, and cyclist weight. Environment and wind also influence range — a flat, even surface always provides increased range over hilly or uneven terrain.

What is the life expectancy of my battery? Lithium batteries are very reliable, and battery life is expressed in charge/discharge cycles — about 500 complete cycles is normal for most lithium bike batteries. Poor maintenance and handling will greatly impact battery life regardless of age.

To maximise range: fully charge before departure, keep tyres inflated to reduce resistance, use the right gear to provide optimum energy yourself, and carry your charger on long rides to recharge during breaks.

Warranty Terms and Conditions Summary

12-month warranty from date of purchase for private use, against possible manufacturing defects for electric bike batteries. Warranty valid only for the original purchaser — an original invoice or proof of purchase must be produced.

Examples of Items Not Covered

  • Loss in storage capacity and riding range as the battery ages (normal and not covered)
  • Any modifications made to the product
  • Minor scratches, marks or imperfections
  • Damage due to external causes — negligent or incorrect use, installation, tampering, traffic accidents, or damage during transportation (e.g. by couriers)
  • Damage due to normal wear and tear and maintenance
  • Poor maintenance and any modifications to the battery
  • If the safety seal is broken, indicating the battery casing has been opened
  • If your battery is stolen or misplaced
  • If the product is used commercially in any way (including hire, food delivery or flyer drops)
  • Batteries used with Voilamart motors and controllers are not warranted

It is warranted that the battery retains 70% of capacity after 1 year from the purchase date, for private use.

Full Warranty Terms and Conditions

We make no representations or warranty in relation to the existence, validity, terms or conditions of any other warranties or product support that may or may not be offered by the manufacturer of the product. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law, and the warranties we offer are in addition to those consumer guarantees.

Subject to the terms below, TDRMOTO agrees to repair or replace the product it supplied at its own cost, where the product does not perform in accordance with TDRMOTO specifications during the 12-month warranty period, for manufacturer faults.

The standard warranty period commences on the date of delivery or collection. Where there is no proof of delivery, the delivery date is assumed to be 3 business days from the date of dispatch.

Proof of purchase (invoice or paid order confirmation) must be provided when requesting service under the warranty. Any repair service under warranty must be approved by TDRMOTO — repairs performed without approval will void your warranty.

Where products are already faulty or damaged on delivery, photographic evidence must be submitted to TDRMOTO via email before the battery will be repaired or replaced.

TDRMOTO reserves the right to replace the battery with the same battery, rather than repair it, and will determine the closest current-range product to replace a faulty or damaged one. Replacement of the battery does not extend or restart the warranty period.

If TDRMOTO is unable to repair or replace the battery, the customer will be provided with credit or a refund of the purchase price (excluding delivery cost), at TDRMOTO's election.

The customer is responsible for inspecting all goods received upon arrival. Damage in transit must be reported within 3 days of receipt — failure to do so may result in denial of warranty for physical damage.

The product will be at the customer's risk while in transit to and from the TDRMOTO authorised repair centre. TDRMOTO may seek reimbursement of costs where the product is found to be in good working order, or where warranty is determined not to apply.

The warranty is not transferable to a new owner of a product originally purchased from TDRMOTO.

To the full extent permitted by law, the warranty will not apply where the product has not been installed, operated, maintained or used in accordance with manufacturer instructions; where the factory-applied serial number has been altered or removed; where damage results from alterations, accident, misuse, abuse, fire, liquid spillage, mis-adjustment, incorrect voltage, power surges, tampering or unauthorised repairs, use of incompatible accessories, or exposure to corrosive conditions or foreign objects; to damage arising during transportation, installation or moving; to third-party software or hardware not originally configured by the manufacturer; or to service of any product while it is outside Australia.

TDRMOTO's aggregate liability under the warranty will not exceed the original purchase price of the product or, at TDRMOTO's option, replacement with a like or similar product. TDRMOTO excludes all other warranties, conditions, terms, representations and undertakings, whether express or implied.

These warranty terms and conditions are governed by the law of the State of Victoria, Australia, and the parties submit to the jurisdiction of the courts of that State.

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

All warranties are voided if any TDRMOTO product sold is modified, rebuilt or opened.
